You have to shave before laser hair removal because the heat energy delivered by the laser targets the pigment in your follicle. If you don’t shave, the visible hair absorbs the heat instead, leaving burnt hair and skin in its wake.

We start with a treatment test spot and prep your cleansed, closely shaved skin with a gel to ensure total tissue protection.
We apply the device, which delivers pulses of energy that damage the follicle. Our treatment options are comfortable and effective for all skin types.

Pre-Care Instructions
Preparing for Laser Hair Removal
Let us know if you have an active breakout, cold sores, or lesions, as we may need to reschedule your laser hair removal appointment.
You’ll need to closely shave the treatment area prior to your appointment. The closer you shave, the better your treatment.
Let us know about the medications you take so we can ensure you’re not on light sensitive medications.
Avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours before laser hair removal and discontinue the use of retinoids 12 hours prior.
Use no oil-based creams or gels a week before your treatment.
Don’t pick, scratch, wax, or tweeze the area at any point in the weeks leading up to or during your treatment. Shaving should be the only hair removal method you use during your treatment series.
Post-Care Instructions
Laser Hair Removal Post-Care
Swelling/Discomfort/Redness:
The most common side effects are erythema and edema (redness and swelling) which generally occur immediately after treatment and typically resolve within 24-48 hours. Crusting and rarely, blistering may occur which typically resolve within 48-72 hours. Some patients experience mild itching post-treatment. This is common and lasts approximately 1-2 days.
Activity:
Post-treatment discomfort is mild, and you may return to regular activities immediately. It is advised that you avoid hot baths, saunas, jacuzzis, and pools for the first 2 days following treatment
(bacteria in them can cause an infection). It is best to avoid applying ice or cooling compresses as the heat response is the body’s natural healing response. However, if extreme heat or discomfort is
evident, use cold compresses to sooth the area.
Moisturizer:
Moisturizer may be applied after each treatment, and then should be applied regularly throughout the course of the treatment.
Make-up:
Make-up may be applied to hide the pinkness of the skin.
Sun Exposure:
Sun avoidance should become a permanent component of your long-term skin care program; always use sunblock. Sun exposure to the treatment area immediately after treatment and for one month following the treatment may increase the risk of pigmentary changes in the treatment area.
Long-term Skin Care:
In addition to sun avoidance for one month following the treatment, we suggest ongoing use of sunblock.

Laser Hair Removal FAQs
We typically recommend that our clients shave the hair from their treatment area the night before treatment. This ensures there’s pigment beneath the surface and none at the surface of your skin, ensuring a better result.
No, you won’t be hairless after just one treatment. You will see some thinning and patchiness anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks after the first treatment. This is because your hair grows in 3 phases—an active growing phase, a transition phase, and a resting phase—and the laser is only effective against the hair that’s in the growing phase. That’s why we schedule multiple treatments every 4 to 8 weeks.
